Because orange can be too intense on its own, Berman added blue accents in the mudroom. "It's such a welcoming color. Orange feels like a younger, fresher version of red," she says. "But it can be a hot color, and I needed a little bit of cool as balance, to cut through the heat." Wall color is Benjamin Moore’s Fresno. Anchor pillow by Jonathan Adler.
Blue-and-White Collection A single antiques fair yielded a windowsill's worth of French terra-cotta pitchers, glazed with sprightly stripes and spots. Hoare fashioned the darker pillow covers from Swedish textiles, the lighter pair from French tea towels.

Living Room. "This isn't a very feminine house, but women love it," McDowell says. She painted all the walls and ceilings the starkest white she could find: a Benjamin Moore primer, Super Spec Flat. The blue ottoman (look at the nail details--could be chic, southern, or beach ready), the pillows, the basket. I'm beginning to notice a trend in my choices, haha! I like the couch design, but not the color. Being cozy and comfortable, while remaining beautiful, is my number one priority in a living room, where I will often entertain.
