Art Deco

The predominant decorative art style of the 1920s and 1930s,1940s, characterized by precise and boldly delineated geometric shapes and strong colors, and used most notably in household objects and in architecture. However these styles were embodied well into our 21st century through different mediums.

BBC Broadcasting House, Portland Place, London, W1A 1AA Architect: George Val Myer, 1932

This Portland stone building has beautiful clean lines and there are some wonderful art deco features: long vertical glass drops on the towers, zigzag tops to the towers, ziggurat roofline, bas relief metalwork panels, ca 1933.

The Bank of Nova Scotia building on Bay St in the financial district is a deco delight.
