Pepsi NEXT Super Bowl Commercial - Party
This crazy Old Spice ad is another in the "Answer the smell of the wild" series of ads. The other one features a guy covered in wolves picking up a woman. In this ad the guy is so intimidating due to the hawks (a bird of prey if you missed the not-so-subtle message) that he scares another man into submission. This of course also means that the hawk guy "wins" the other guy's girlfriend/wife. Need I say more about the messed up message here?
Old Spice | Poker Face
These Old Spice ads are just getting crazier and crazier but they are pretty entertaining in their unpredictability. If you can look past the craziness, you'll notice it's built on some traditional masculinity traits. The wolves clearly represent an aggressive, unchained wildness that makes him sexy. The woman talks about being scared and feeling helpless to resist him... so a message about dominance and power. there's definitely a message about aggression in here that I find concerning.
