LIFE IS SWEET: Paper Snowflakes 101
The most simple paper snowflakes are based on 4- or 8-pointed stars (fold a square in half diagonally and keep halving it until it's nearly too thick to cut, then snip out small shapes ). The second and third flakes in this garland are based on a 5-pointed star. Download the 5-point folding directions right here. I think they're easier to cut since there are fewer paper layers.

Paper Snowflakes, entire folding tutorial in the picture. Notes: Parchment paper gave me the best results, easiest to cut. If using rectangular paper, there will be excess on the end after step 2, cut that off. Step 4 is tricky to get just right. You're folding the triangle into 3rds, 1/3rd over the other but this needs to be done by feel. Do not make deep creases in this step until you've got no overlap at either edge. Step 6: the thinner your remaining paper, the more delicate the flake.
