Sight word assessment. Words are typed into a power point so the kids don't get overwhelmed by the long list.
Running records - use address labels, clipboard, and large index cards. Write your notes on the address labels as you walk around and observe. Later, stick them onto the child's index card. Quick and easy! Then, during parent/teacher conferences, just pull out the notecard and share your observations.

Tons of awesome ideas for Word Work
Fiddlesticks game to practice sight words, maths facts, etc. Write word or maths fact on end of craft stick. One stick has a red dot. Students draw out a stick and answer the fact on the end. If correct keep the stick, if incorrect place back in the cup. If the red dot is drawn, all that student's sticks have to go back in the cup.....bummer! At the end of ten minutes, student with the most sticks is the winner.

The kids can easily see how to do the activity and where to put it back. " with link to activities. I LOVE the idea of color coded sleeves. Would work well for new Balanced Literacy Centers.
