A three-month-old snow leopard cub looks up adoringly at its mother as he makes his debut at the Brookfield Zoo, Illinois. There are an estimated 3,500 to 7,000 of the endangered leopards remaining in the wild. (Photo by Scott Olson/Getty Images). .

The snow leopard’s powerful build allows it to scale great steep slopes with ease. Its hind legs give the snow leopard the ability to leap six times the length of its body. A long tail provides balance and agility and also wraps around the resting snow leopard as protection from the cold. There are less than 7,000 leopards still alive.
