Fashion of the 1950s
Cocktail Ensemble, Christian Dior, Paris, France: 1956, silk taffeta, silk organza. "Of the spring 1956 collection- the Tulip line- Vogue reported, "Not since 1947 and Dior's famous first Collection have Paris fashions had such a rush of femininity- nor have there been so many bravos at the dramatic end of an opening." The small jacket cut high to reveal the waist of the skirt, called a "Caraco" was a common element of the Tulip line."
