Maybe it's time to let kids out of the bubble wrap. They are not as fragile as some people think. As a parent, it is a challenge to balance our role as protector with the need for kids to explore the world. Some children have a deep need to try the untried, explore the unknown and risk falling down. For them, a life without some risk may not be worth living.
This just in: 50 Dangerous Things. Its not so much of a Dangerous Book for Boys, which was bit more how-to oriented, as it is a guide for all children who spend too much time indoors protected by their very careful parents. Or perhaps its a guide for such parents. That said, I cant say Im a fan of letting my children do all 50 things.

This assignment is on The Classification Systems of Living Organisms. I use this as a homework assignment, but it also makes a wonderful study guide for a chapter test on classification. It consists of 44 questions of varying formats. I usually break it up and use it for several homework assignments. There are fill in the blank, multiple choice, and completion questions. Pictures and diagrams are included that will greatly enhance student understanding of this material.
