Haunting yet Beautiful Cemeteries
Under the wide and starry sky, Dig the grave and let me lie. Glad did I live and gladly die, And I laid me down with a will. This be the verse you grave for me: Here he lies where he longed to be; Home is the sailor, home from sea, And the hunter home from the hill. Robert Louis Stevenson 1850-1894
The Collins Crypt -- The Ashtabula River Railroad Disaster was a train disaster caused by bridge failure on December 29, 1876, at 7:28 p.m. It was the worst rail accident in the USA until the Great Train Wreck of 1918. One or perhaps two of the bridge designers later -- Charles Collins -- committed suicide. The disaster helped focus efforts to draw up standards for bridges including adequate testing and inspection.
