Musicals I Love
I loved the movie Hair since I was a teen- it really spoke to me in a way that I cannot put into words. The movie came out in 1977 when I was 11. Although many of the themes were way over my head I just somehow got it. I saw the movie many times over the years. Finally in 2011 the play toured and I was able to see it on stage. It was everything I had hoped it would be.
Hair, the musical
now what more can I say. One of my favorite musicals of all time. And Rob Marshall did a totally smart thing with the film. He based his direction and his choeography on Bob Fosse's work with Cabaret. Nobody could find a way to translate the wonderful John Kander and Fred Ebb's material onto the screen, and he suggested that the musical numbers could take place in Roxie's imagination!!
