The Deans' Bible

"The Deans' Bible: Five Purdue Women and Their Quest for Equality," a biography and history of America published by Purdue University Press and authored by Angie Klink. From 1930s to 1990s these indomitable, courageous women were examples, mentors, and advocates for women students, women in America, and those with disabilities. Dorothy Stratton was the founder and director of the Women's Reserve of the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII. She named it SPARs. "The Deans' Bible" is history with heart.

Dorothy C. Stratton was Purdue University's first full-time dean of women, director of the Women's Reserve of the U.S. Coast Guard she named SPARs, and the National Executive Director of the Girl Scouts of America from 1950 to 1960. Former home of Purdue Deans of Women/ Students Beverley Stone and Barbara Cook on Western Drive, West Lafayette, IN. In retirement, Deans Helen Schleman and Dorothy Stratton lived at 1607. The dean of men lived across he street. The street came to be know as " Deans' Row."
