Eating 1-1 1/2 hours before a workout is key! Your body needs some energy to work off of. If you go to a workout hungry you will be working off lean muscle instead of fat! So eating something with some carbs and some protein (preferably something that is half carbs, half protein) will give your body something to work off of, but will also allow your body to go into fat burning mode.
