Instant Entry-Carve out an entryway in an open living room with a room divider. This deceptively simple unit -- made from three unfinished cabinets -- defines an entry and makes up for the absence of a coat closet. On the side facing the entry, each member of the family has a set of cabinet knobs to hang coats, bags, and hats. The middle cabinet unit stores mail, reminders, car keys, and more behind closed cabinet doors and out-of-season gear in baskets on a shelf below.
Hallway Library...clever idea to use space and make it functional:) Definitely pleasing to the eye.
Painted 2X4 with hooks. So simple and functional! Behind the front door. Also love the Gray walls!
Idea to paint bench, shelf & wall the same color to make it look built in. Paint color is Vintage Wine, Benjamin Moore Paint Color of 2011.
Leave space under cabinets in mud room for dog bed. *Make wider & adjust height as needed to have space for dog food & water bowls.
Organized mudroom or entry area. Love so many aspects of this space: padded bench seating to sit & put shoes on or take them off (& step on to access overhead shelf), individual little shelves for sunglasses to keep from getting scratched, overhead shelving & a mirror to check yourself out before you head out the door.
Corners seem to get a bad rap. They are generally regarded as a waste of space. However, with a little ingenuity, these often dismissed areas of our home can become an active and functional part of your everyday life. For example, we think this "Samantha" Corner Bench and Shelf by PotteryBarn, is perfect for a small entryway.
Small space, great entryway.
Closet converted into mini mudroom....
Back wall of garage before enter the house? Simple built-ins to create a mudroom or storage anywhere from a kids room to a laundry room by adding shelves or a deeper bench for sitting. Or instead of custom, buy two thrify store bookcases and paint them, bolt them to your wall and add wainscotting between them. Then pick up a thift store bench and cut it to fit. Add the hooks and you're set.
