GRAY, WHITE AND TOURQUISE - In a shade that has a hint of blue, gray shakes its drab reputation in this charming living room. The calm palette of gray, white, and turquoise recalls the lovely tones in the sky on a stormy day. Gathered-over-time furnishings add soul to the space: An old milk-bucket bench slipped sideways between the boldly patterned chairs mimics the color in the enlarged plot MAPS behind in the dining area.

On Safari Another fine example of how the elements of color, pattern and texture can mingle.. to transform a living room and make a bold but delicate statement! From the grand but delicate chandelier to the zebra print (and yes, the furry floor cover!) this room would be a focal point of my dream home. It's one of those "Gotta Love, Must Have" kind of looks!

My dream house will have a very functional work island like in this kitchen. I love the contrasting color of the island, the wood countertop, and the column-like corners. The metal stools add just the right amount of flair to this traditional kitchen. I find at my home I spend the majority of my time in the kitchen and this island would make my kitchen work easier while giving me a nice place for my husband and I to have our meals. Another great BHG Idea!
Mid-century modern furniture is such a style shape-shifter. It can go retro, modern, quirky, or classic; it’s all in the pairing. Even when paired up with other iconic pieces from the era, as in the breakfast nook above, updated surroundings can still bring it very much in line with today. You can get the same [...]
Two iconic pieces in one breakfast nook: a Saarine table and Eames molded plastic dowel leg armchairs.

"Front Door Drop Zone: This entry is modest, but doesn't feel small or stuffy. With two wide drawers and a shelf of baskets beneath (perfect for gloves and mittens), a small demilune cabinet offers a surprising amount of storage capacity. A freestanding coatrack adds a bit of vintage charm to the space while a collage of photographs instills personality. Want to dress up a simple entry like this for the holidays? Simply switch out the plant for a poinsettia and drape some garland over the photo frame."
What's not to love about a piece of furniture that combines style (a curvy silhouette) with function (drawers for storing entryway necessities)?

This powder-blue living room is from Better Homes & Gardens. Here's how they describe it: "Colors don't need to be bright or bold to make a big impact in a space. In this room, powder blue walls and a white fireplace make a pleasant pair. Identical straight-back chairs and ottomans pull color from the walls, while decorative rosy pink pillows add a touch of warmth. For a little shine, choose a bejeweled chandelier to complete an elegant look."

Add Pattern Pattern, like color, exerts an emotional pull that can jumpstart a decorating style. Whether you gravitate toward crisp stripes, bold florals, or classic toile, pattern can be used to liven up a space. Add a dash of pattern to an otherwise patternless room by draping a quilt or duvet across the foot of the bed, as shown here. A bold, geometric pattern creates an instant focal point in the black-and-white room.
Not only is the headboard upholstered, but the side rails are too. (And check out that fabulous chandelier.)
