Quieter version of wooden blocks with nice colours and many different shapes! I like this idea because you can cut the sponges into whichever shapes you want to make the "blocks" diverse. It's a very open ended activity with many possibilities to create different constructions. Also can be a great material for water tables!

Place parchment or waxed paper on a baking sheet. Place cookie cutters on tray. Pour inexpensive plastic beads into cookie cutter. Preheat oven to 200 degrees-- Depending on beads, melting will be complete in 20-60 minutes (you will need to watch!). Place part of a bamboo skewer in the beads to create a hole for hanger/string/twine/ribbon for hanging.

Another "calming jar" idea: your kids shake the bottle and then have to watch it till the glitter settles to the bottom. This one has the advantage of being in non-breakable plastic bottles. Also, you can superglue the lids on, so the kids don't open the bottles and drink the glitter glue while they're "calming down."
Time out bottles! Water, glue and glitter..mix and add until it takes 5 minutes to settle. Watching it settle relaxes them, and you don't have to set a timer! Brilliant!!
