Essential oil insect repellent. Safe for kids and manly-smelling enough for the guys.
Mix 1 gallon of water with 2 tablespoons of neem, and ½ teaspoon each rosemary and lavender essential oils (I used organic version of all the oils). You can also add a couple of tablespoons of phosphate-free liquid dishwashing soap. Mix thoroughly and pour into a spray bottle. Spray over every part of your plants, mixing frequently to keep the oils and water from separating.

Homemade Mosquito Repellent Materials: 15 drops lavender oil 3 Tbsp of vanilla extract 10 drops of citronella oil or lemon-eucalyptus oil 1/4 Cup lemon juice Spray bottle Directions: Combine above ingredients in spray bottle. Fill remainder of bottle with water, water/vodka or water/witch hazel mixture. Spray yourself and any objects or areas you wish to keep mosquito free!
DIY Bug Spray | Fill spray bottle 1/2 full with distilled or boiled water. Add witch hazel to fill almost to the top. Add 30-50 drops of essential oils to desired scent. The more oils you use, the stronger the spray will be. Try a combination of tea tree, eucalyptus, mint, citronella, and lavender. The lavender added a calming and sweet smell to the spray.

Natural Fly Spray 1 quart Raw Apple Cider Vinegar (I suppose you could use regular ACV from the store, but I think using the real stuff adds an extra punch. 1 teaspoon Citronella Essential Oil (I found this at my local natural foods store, Mix together in a spray bottle. Apply to the animals frequently (give it a good shake before applying). And be careful, it smells strong. Whew!

Cover and simmer 5 minutes. 3) Remove from heat - let cool 24 Hours with lid. 4) Pour into spray bottle(s) using strainer (will be sediment from the herbs). * Store remaining mix. in safe container out of reach of children.
Homemade Mosquito Candles! 1. Strip, wash and dry old glass jars. 2. Stick on stickers to make words/designs of your choice. 3. Coat in spray paint. 4. Peel off the stickers. 5. Fill about 1/2 way with vegetable oil and add citronella essential oil (got mine from a local health food store). 6. Add a hurricane lamp wick (let it soak on the oil before using). 7. Enjoy!

DIY Catnip as insect repellant. Iowa State University scientists found catnip works 10 times better at repelling mosquitoes than DEET. Lot of ways to make your own repellent.. easy one: steep 3 cups of the herb in hot water strain and then spray that on your skin. Your cats will love you for it, too..? (this might be a downside)
We are being plagued by ticks in our yard! I found this recipe for mosquito/tick repellent. Spray it on yourself or your yard or your dog!!! EASY, cheap, NATURAL!!! (research it yourself, the same recipe is on every website with a "natural" bug repellent. )
