Baking Soda: (1) Keep cut flowers fresh longer by adding a teaspoon to the water in the vase (2) Scatter baking soda around flowerbeds to prevent rabbits from eating your veggies. (3) Sweeten your tomatoes by sprinkling baking soda on the soil around your tomato plants. (4) Wash fruits and vegetables with it.
The next time you have green onions, don't throw away the white ends. Simply submerge them in a glass of water and place them in a sunny window. Your onions will begin to grow almost immediately and can be harvested almost indefinitely. We just use kitchen scissors to cut what we need for meals. I periodically empty out the water, rinse the roots off and give them fresh water.
When a cucumber is taken from the vine let it be cut with a knife, leaving about an eighth of an inch of the cucumber on the stem, then slit the stem with the knife from its end to the vine leaving a small portion of the cucumber on each division and on each separate slip there will be a new cucumber as large as the first.
