plant combos, A few of my favorite plant combinations last summer around the golf course garden, In the foreground are variegated Japanese irises. The blooms are so vibrant and the Heuchera to the right echoes the purple shades. When the irises are done blooming the white striped foliage continues to contrast nicely next to the Heuchera. The fluffy yellow cloud behind the iris is good old-fashioned ladies mantle, and the purple behind that is salvia. , Gardens Design
plant combos, A few of my favorite plant combinations last summer around the golf course garden, Thats a red hot poker in the background and Heuchera Caramel, low and orange in the foreground. Whats great about the Caramel is, it also has magenta in the leaf so it pairs with and warm and cool flowering specimens. The white shrub is a dappled willow. It starts out in the spring with pink and white leaves. I chop mine down every fall to keep it small. , Gardens Design
Green and white gardens interest me more now, than they did twenty years ago. They have the same sophisticated visual appeal as a great black and white photograph. Michael Kenna’s landscape photographs are breathtaking; his view of the landscape is so much about the sculpture of green spaces. The success of the great French landscapes has much to do with great, strictly edited design. When I hear green and white garden from a client, I think edited and sculptural.
