Hotel Bedroom - Lucian Freud. Hotel Bedroom includes two figures - Freud is in the background in shadow - greyed out - and his wife (Lady Caroline Blackwood) is lying in the foreground - almost as if she were somebody on their death bed. Her portrayal is significantly different from the earlier portraits which present a very fresh appearance. It's often referred to as being about the breakdown of a marriage.
