Stuff Every Dad Should Know book
it's all about creating memories
Often derided as a license to abuse children, this book by James Dobson actually has some very good points to make. The most important is Dobson's example of the hot stove. The quickest way for a child to learn is to experience pain. He is very clear that he does not condone abuse or violence, but a controlled spank is not violence - it is administering a little pain now to prevent a lot of pain later, especially in situations where the consequences of disobedience or whatnot will not be evident until habits are deeply ingrained. Much more to this book than spanking, too.
