The Medic in the field at the Spanish-American war had new equipment requirements. With the new medicines in syringe and concentrated powder or crystalline form, it was possible for stronger medicines to be packed, in much smaller bags. This gave the medic more room to carry other supplies, and enabled him to improve upon his surgical, splint and bandage kits.
