Blue Ridge Parkway connecting the Great Smoky Mtns. National Park and the Shenendoah Ntl. Park., forming Blue Ridge Mountains along the Apalachian Trail. I was fortunate to have a view like this for dinner every night on the patio, and during my morning runs while in Asheville, NC. The Blue Ridge Mtns. were featured in Last of the Mohicans, Hunger Games, and the lake scene from Dirty Dancing. The Great Smoky Mountains are also home to the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.

I worked at a horse farm north of Kearney, Nebraska, in 1983. Mostly I scooped horse manure from the stables (no fun!), although I did get to help throw hay bales in the field. I directed traffic once during a horse show...one guy was furious because he didn't like where I told him to park (he said he was too important to park there)!
U.S. 1, Florida Keys Leaving the mainland for the 120-mile-long island chain of Florida’s Keys, travelers enter a paradise of beach bars, water sports, and Parrotheads (Jimmy Buffett fans). From Key Largo to Key West, the overseas highway strings the islands together like beads, running past lighthouses, underwater coral-reef parks, and across 7 Mile Bridge—one of the longest bridges in the world.
