Joseph Philippe Lemercier Laroche was a Paris-educated Haitian engineer. He was the only black passenger on the ill-fated voyage of the RMS Titanic. He put his pregnant French wife and their two daughters onto a lifeboat; they survived, but he did not. Joseph's daughter, Louise Laroche (2 July 1910 - 28 January 1998...pictured above, standing on chair, left) was one of the last remaining survivors of the sinking of the RMS Titanic on April 15, 1912.

Milton Snavely Hershey and wife Catherine Sweeney Hershey, were to have returned home on the Titanic and had even given a deposit of $300.00 for their tickets. Fate intervened when business prompted them to return earlier on the ship, Amerika. If not for FATE there would be NO Hershey's Chocolate.

Violet Constance Jessop (1887-1971) was an ocean liner stewardess and nurse who achieved fame by surviving the disastrous sinkings of sister ships RMS Titanic and HMHS Britannic in 1912 and 1916 respectively. In addition, she had been on board Titanic and Britannic′s other sister ship, RMS Olympic, when it collided with the protected cruiser HMS Hawke in 1911.

Although the Titanic sunk April 15, 1912, on its first trip, the voyage continues - in movies, books, TV shows, and the public's fascination. On the 100th anniversary of the sinking, here are 100 things worth knowing about the doomed ocean liner.
