Books Worth Reading
What if Everybody Did That? by Ellen Javernick This one should come standard with every primary classroom. The book goes through a day with a little one who does things without thinking, like feeding zoo animals despite the warning signs not to. He's got that same feeling that lots of kids do - that their actions won't make that big of a difference. But the community helpers in this book get him to think of what would happen if everybody did that.
Great way in introduce rules on the first day!

I pinned this for an idea to do w my boys on a rainy day- cut out different pieces of construction paper for diff eye shapes, mouths, ears, clothes, hair etc and let them make a self portrait I think it would b neat to see what they pick then frame it w the date and their name and the left overs they could make silly faces or make portraits of their brothers dad or me
Lots of activity ideas for first week of school and all about me
great idea It can be soooo time consuming to answer the questions...Can we use markers?, Do we turn this in?, Is this a talking activity? I love using these assignment choice signs to answer those questions without me doing the work. Once I give directions for an activity, I quickly place checks and X's by the cards and my students know exactly where to look for the answer. (CREATE on SMARTboard)
clear visuals for directions to an assignment
I attached the center cover sheet to a file folder and ran each folder through the laminator. After cutting the top of the folder, I placed all of the activity sheets inside. These centers are very easy for the students to access and allows them to practice a variety of skills to keep those basic math concepts fresh!
