ITALIAN COMEDY - PULCINELLA CERAMIC MASK (WALL DECOR): 20" (50cm) Tall. The Italian Comedy ("Commedia dell'Arte) was a humorous theatrical presentation performed by professional players travelling in troupes throughout Italy in the 16th century. Performances took place on temporary stages, mostly on city streets but occasionally in court venues. The better troupes performed in palaces and became internationally famous.
Faux jewels and peacock plumes adorn the artistic headpiece of this mysterious enchantress. Hand-painted detail gives the ceramic mask a lifelike beauty. This collectible Italian ceramic face mask of the seasons Summer "l'Estate" is painted in the rich yellows of the Italian summer. We searched far and wide for just the right masks with cherubic faces and rich glazes and we found them at Valentina's in Deruta. Ancient Italians thought these masks brought good luck.
