ca 1890 This oval rye straw is a rare find among Pennsylvania baskets. The body is coiled rye straw held together with oak splint. Once the base was formed an oak handle was attached with the same oak splint binding. Rye Straw Baskets are rarely found with wooden bail handles, and are sought after by many basket collectors.
