If you don’t understand this shirt, you don’t know NOLA. The rest of the country has torn down neighborhoods and built strip malls and sprawl to the horizon till they have lost all their quality and character. Not NOLA. By default, we are behind the curve and ahead of the pack. It’s good to be backwards sometimes.
It is a state of mind as well as a badge of pride. Wherever you are in the world, be a New Orleanian. This means different things to different people. But, overall, it usually means you are the life of the party, the best storyteller in a room, and able to handle any situation. Thanks to Jimmy Fallon, Sienna Miller and others who are sporting the shirt. It is appreciated. Gotta keep NOLA on folks’ minds.
Places like the suburbs have all their houses in nice, neat rows. If there is a crack, it is fixed. Something worn? Take it away. But, not in New Orleans. There is beauty in the decay. Not everyone can see it. But for those of you who can, this shirt is for you.
They ruled this city before the Europeans claimed it, and they just might rule it again in a few decades (you know, if you believe all that global warming mumbo jumbo). But, the shirt begs the question: If the Gator is the King of Louisiana, what is the Nutria? Anyways, it is a cool shirt.
A yearly diet of rich food, boils, parades, house parties, late night shows, jazz fest and every other festival under the sun can leave anyone with a few extra pounds. And, rebuilding and dealing with insurance agents and local government can take away a few years. Living here has always been tough, but it gets even tougher these days. But, we keep getting stronger. And, talk about stamina!
A symbol designed with you in mind. That is, if you believe that Louisiana deserves more than she receives from the rest of the country considering all she provides. As the symbol says: Power, Access, Culture. Isn’t it time to recognize our importance and spread the good word?
Crawfish are ugly, bottom-feeding bugs . . . and they are wonderfully delicious. It is a right of passage to go to a boil and learn the process. A shirt meant to be worn to a crawfish boil and free to be used as your napkin. Wipe your hands freely. It will just add to the design. Pick, Pull, Suck, Pinch, Repeat.
