Unwind; to settle the abortion debate, this dystopian society bans fetal abortion but allows a sort of retroactive abortion, called "unwinding," available between the ages of 13-18, where the child's entire body is harvested for organs and transplanted into those who need them (thus no actual "death" occurs). what happens when a few revolt against being unwound? very thought provoking.
Unwind is a twisted futuristic thriller from the mind of Neal Shusterman, now in paperback.

Neal Shusterman is a fairly recent addition to my ever-growing list of beloved writers. His Young Adult novel "Unwind" is an absolutely brilliant piece of writing for which I have written numerous lesson and unit plans geared toward high school students. This wonderful dystopian novel draws in even the most reluctant readers and I would love to see it implemented into high school curricula.
