Summer time crafts
Sock bubbles...I just tested this and it took 3 mins to make & is soooo cool. The kids are gonna love it!
Paint in ziplock bags, taped to table. Great distraction, no mess! Perfect for tiny tots. :)
For camping or late nights at the beach? Leave 1/4 of Mountain dew in bottle (just dont drink it all), add a tiny bit of baking soda and 3 caps of peroxide. Put the lid on and shake - walla! Homemade glow stick (bottle) solution.
Marble Races with a cheap pool noodle (keep kiddos occupied for hours)
Cover a toilet paper tube in peanut butter and roll in bird seed. Then just slide it on a branch.

15 Ways to Have Fun Outside in the Dark
Another "calming jar" idea: your kids shake the bottle and then have to watch it till the glitter settles to the bottom. This one has the advantage of being in non-breakable plastic bottles. Also, you can superglue the lids on, so the kids don't open the bottles and drink the glitter glue while they're "calming down."
