Landscape near Arles - Paul Gauguin, 1888.. Gaughin was born on this day June 7, 1848. He joined his friend Vincent Van Gogh in Arles to start an artist colony. Unfortunately the two friends had a fight. Gaughin left, Van Gogh entered the mental hospital in St Remy de Provence and the dream of an artist colony vanished.

Gustav Klimt – Apple Tree – oil on canvas 1912. Original title “Apfelbaum”. This was one of five Gustav Klimt paintings that were recovered and restored to the heirs of the Bloch-Bauer estate after they were looted by the Nazis. The painting is in the Belvedere in Vienna.
