Coat style maternity dress closes with 17 flat mother-of-pearl buttons in front. Nine buttons have button holes and the rest are decorative. Self fabric ruffle with center stitching Dress has short train in back to accommodate the bustle. Set in coat style sleeves are cut over shoulders and piped with self fabric. #atwoodhouse

Maternity bodice & drapery ca. 1870. Silky fabric with woven dots, trimmed in turquoise silk. Short bodice was fashionable around this time, as was color combination. Bodices & draperies were modified for pregnancy, but not skirts. (The skirt for this outfit has not survived). Amsterdam Museum blog
