Cashmere wool and silk shawl, Indian, 1850-75. This finely woven shawl is a jamawar, a long shawl woven as a single piece. Created from high-quality cashmere, the long process required to create the borders and center as one would have added to the expense of an already high-end object.
Beautiful old hand embroidered indian paisley shawl.

Beaded devoré velvet evening wrap, c.1914 I love the cocoon-shaped evening wraps of the early 20th century. The fluid, unstructured shape seems to take on the personality of the wearer. This brings to mind of the great modern dancer Isadora Duncan. Both her costume and dance were infused with her personality. She was also a collector and wearer of antique costume. devor velvet, charms, 1900, chiffon, c1914, beauty, the navy, blues, bead coat

Art Deco black shawl/cloak/cape, from the 1920s. Made of a black silk background, with silver metallic lamé threads woven into the fabric in an embossed brocaded floral leaf pattern design which is reversed on the other side. There is a hand knotted black silk fringe trim sewn around the fabric square. This magnificent square shawl has been created into a beautiful cape cloak style, with an attached black silk neck scarf tie with fringed ends for closure around the neckline. cape, cloak
