Abandoned Trains

Bahia Honda Key Bridge This is one the now abandoned bridges that used to carry trains from Miami to Key West. The railroad was completed in 1912, but much of the railbed was washed away in a hurricane some years later.

Abandoned Skunk Train, California In Fort Bragg is rusty maintenance yard for the number 681 Skunk Train, which began operations in 1885. Train employees who work late nights on the adjacent, newly restored and active Skunk Line claim that the ghost of C. R. Johnson, founder of the railroad, lurks in the old depot.

Abandoned Railroad Tunnel...Tunnel #19 which sits abandoned outside of Cairo West Virginia. The old tunnel was part of a 72 mile track built by the B & O Railroad in the 1850s. Now part of the North Bend Rail Trail, this and two other abandoned tunnels, along with 10 other accessable tunnels, make up a magnificent trail from Parkersburg to Clarksburg that has no more than a 3% grade.
