Roaring Twenties ~ 1920's
"The war to end all wars was over, & so was the deadly flu. It was time to think of life & living...You in your flapper finery, your long cigarette holder askew. Me in my knickers & straw hat, we strolled down the avenue. [We] watched movies both silent & sinful, & danced till the night was [through], drinking the latest bootleg brew. We were high wire, our hearts were on fire, it lasted as long as a flame, a decadent decade in name..." Roaring Twenties by Ronald Hull
Green silk charmeuse evening gown with metallic thread embroidery and pearl beadwork (back), by Callot Soeurs, French (c. 1928). I love the two shades of green used! Gown is sleeveless, with handkerchief hemline. The fanned beaded clasp, at the back of the gown, attaches off center below the deep v-neckline. It creates a lovely 'fall' down the back of the gown.

The squared train is lined with exquisite 'Lanvin blue' silk. Squared neckline with spaghetti straps. Skits is slightly gathered from a drop waist and is also lined in blue.
Evening dress (back view) | Jeanne Lanvin (French, 1867-1946) | France, Spring/Summer 1923 | Materials: silk, metal, feather | Lanvin's masterful manipulation of ribbon to create the embroidery on this design enhances the beautiful elegance of the silver lamé. The silhouette is a play on the robe de style which Lanvin helped popularize in the late teens. Its reduced hips still evoke the 18th century albeit not to the extremes of her earlier styles | The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
