Some of the pieces of most importance to the collectors are displayed in the foyer. A Federal card table, probably made in or near Providence, R.I, circa 1800, is one of the finest examples of the form. Above it is a portrait of Kate Elting, painted in New Paltz, New York, probably in 1824. The sitter's white dress shows the artist's ability to adroitly picture transparent fabric.
