Cool Ideas for Gelli Printing!

GELLI PRINTED INTAGLIO - INSPIRED OVERPRINT Create an intaglio-inspired printing plate following the step-by-step directions in the Gelli Plate Printing book on page 68. Instead of printing the design you create on an inscribed styrofoam plate onto a blank piece of paper, this time you’ll print the design onto an old Gelli print.

Gelli Printed Landscape Mixed-Media Collage This is a great way to use your prints! Tear several prints into various sized pieces and place them on a substrate, arranging them to overlap in a way that resembles a landscape. Add fabric, yarn and found papers, tucking them in between layers. Dyed cheesecloth, novelty yarns, and snippets of various papers—like music, maps and text from old book pages—all work well layered in between the torn Gelli printed pieces.

Zen-Doodling on a Comb-Patterned Gelli Print! First, create a Gelli print using a comb. A curvy motion with a comb, such as a Catalyst Wedge, or a hand-cut comb will provide a good graphic element in the print to doodle around. - See more at: www.createmixedme...

Gelli day bonus! Making Painted Papers Outdoors! As a rule...when the weather is beautiful...I like to take all my painting supplies and make a huge colorful mess outside. For creating my Torn Paper Paintings, I need to keep a full supply of papers painted up in many colors and designs to be used for when I start each painting. & more!: Gelli day bonus! & more!: Gelli day bonus!

A lot of times I use the Gelli Prints for backgrounds in mixed media pieces, or cut it up to use it as collage paper but sometimes they just look too good to cut up or mess with! Kara Beth: Art + Java In the Morning -

Not enough play time... Well I did manage to play a couple weekends ago. I am still having fun creating abstracts with the Gelli plate. The first two are finished.

Brayer Choices I started making an effort to use several papers as I use my gelli plate. It bothered me to waste paper by cleaning my brayer on the same paper. Eventually, it just was mud. Now, I keep the blues, greens on one paper and reds, purples on another. I will occasionally mix them on same large paper but not let them roll over each other.

Once I realized that I could gelli print on tissue, I kept thinking about sewing pattern tissue and gift wrap tissue. I have successfully printed on both through my printer and stamped on it but would it stand up to the gelli plate or not? - Debby Epps, Mixed Media Artist
