Every two weeks, Greg Mahle drives 4,200 miles over a period of five days from eastern Ohio and heads down to Houston to save unwanted dogs from overpopulated shelters. He picks up about 80 dogs there, and at stops in Miss., La., Al. and Tenn. He then packs them up in a semitrailer and takes them to pre-arranged homes in states including Penn., NY, NJ, Ct. and Vt. He estimates that he and his Rescue Road Trips save about 2,000 dogs from euthanasia every year.
