One of the most famous photos of Native people in Yosemite is this photograph taken by J. T. Boysen in 1901. Susie and daughter Sadie McGowan.
During the migration west, most family members (young and old) who could walk would have to travel most or all of the route on foot next to the covered wagon. All of their household belongings would fill the bed of the wagon in order for the family to start a new life where ever they settled. This rare photo shows a wagon train traveling west toward a new life. Wow!
This project began from the theory that humans are made of cosmic matter as a result of a stars death. I created imagery that showcased this cosmic birth through the use of dust and reflective confetti to create galaxies. The models organic bodily expressions as they are frozen in time between the particles suggest their celestial creation.
