Skinny & Healthy Are 2 Different Things
A fantastic post that not only explains why the messages we get from the media are so wrong and hurtful, but also how to combat them in our every day lives. If you've ever looked at a movie, tv show, magazine, or another person and thought, "if were just as skinny/curvy/athletic/clear-skinned/tan as that person, I'd be more attractive," please take a few minutes to read this post!
"There is nothing wrong with your body but there is a lot wrong with the messages which try to convince you otherwise."
Had to unfollow someone for pinning this under "fight patriarchy" and supporting it's message. The word fat is not an inherent insult. Being fat is not a bad thing. Being called fat in a derogatory way is a bad thing. No one wants to be called fat, even if they really are, and it's wrong. Being fat does not make you bad, undesirable, or unappealing. But most of all, it doesn't make you any less of what really matters, human.
That goes for the boys too! Just leave us all alone!
“In Hollywood, I’m obese. I’m considered a fat actress. I’m never going to starve myself for a part. I keep waiting for that one role to come along that scares me enough into dieting, and it just can’t happen. I’m invincible. I don’t want little girls to be like, ‘Oh, I want to look like Katniss, so I’m going to skip dinner.’ That’s something that I was really conscious of during training. I was trying to get my body to look fit and strong, not thin and underfed.”
