    Your subfloor needs to be smooth. We removed upstairs carpet, and did not prep subfloor correctly. Ended up with area rug over 1/2 and furniture over rest, so the part that does show looks OK, don't know that we saved all that much, if difference is only a few hundred, would go with the Pergo type flooring.
