Grab a pack of colored pipe cleaners from your local craft store (usually these cost about 0.99 cents), then show your little one how to thread them through the holes of a colander. Sounds simple I know, but for a young toddler this is fascinating stuff. Fuzzy, multi-colored, bendy things that can be pushed through shiny holes! I mean, come on, how can you resist?

I made these "I Spy" bottles for the toddlers, using plain old millet birdseed in large, empty Voss water bottles. Then I added little plastic toys, a penny, a peach pit carved like a monkey, an army man & whatever else I could find. Added a list on the lid of the things to look for.
