First time public was aware of Hoarders. 1947: The Collyer brothers were wealthy and eccentric. Here their brownstone building is searched by NYC police after their bodies were found amid 130 tons of trash they had hoarded. It appeared that Langley had been crawling through their newspaper tunnel to bring food to his paralyzed brother & one of his own booby traps fell down & crushed him. Homer, blind, paralyzed & dependent on his brother, starved to death. How very sad.

Sybil Ludington, is considered to be the female equivalent of Paul Revere. At only 16 years old, she made a journey twice as long as Revere’s. Her father, Col. Ludington was the leader of the local militia. In April of 1777, Col. Ludington sent Sybil to warn the militia members in several other towns to prepare for the impending attack by the British. Sybil traveled 40 miles on horseback on a stormy night. Sybil was thanked for her help by George Washington who came to her home personally.

A penniless mother hides her face in shame after putting her children up for sale. Chicago, 1948. The saddest thing is it looks like they have no idea...

I really like this picture.  Whenever we see pics of people doing black girls hair, there is always frowning and angry faces like its such a struggle. Here the little girl is smiling and content while her mother(??) is gently and patiently tending to her hair. It’s nice.

“An eighteen year old boy is carried into the shock ward, and he looks up at my trustingly asking, “How am I doing, nurse?” I just kiss his forehead and say, “You are doing just fine soldier.” He smiles sweetly and says, “I was just checking,” Then he dies. We all cry in private. But not in front of the boys. Never in front of the boys.” - June Wandrey, WWII in HD

Elizabeth Ann Duncan hired two men to kill her pregnant daughter-in-law, jealous that the young mother-to-be threatened her incestuous relationship with her son Frank, 30. The jury took just four hours and 51 minutes to find her guilty. Duncan is one of four women executed in California's gas chamber. That's just crazy!!!
