A Spanish Interior - John Singer Sargent
Madame X - John Singer Sargent, 1884. The original of this caused a scandal, because the strap on her right shoulder was down. It was subsequently repainted, but you can still see that the right top of her bodice is a little off.

"Sir Frank Swettenham" by John Singer Sargent (England, 1904). Notes from the National Gallery of Australia: Frank Athelstane Swettenham (1850–1946) was an outstandingly able and effective colonial administrator, ending his career as Governor of the Straits Colony and High Commissioner for the Federated Malay States. In this portrait, commissioned by the Straits Association in commemoration of Swettenham’s service, Sargent presents a proud and powerful consul.
