When I was one, my family painted the bedroom hallway. Everyone did what they wanted. My mom painted waves along the bottom and lips around the lightswitch. My sisters added paisley swirls and paperdoll figures. My dad did Mt. Hood at sunset. I did handprints. I'd love to do a version with my family someday.

Judy Chicago ~ Birth Tear (1982). On this huge, monumental works she employed artisans whom she all has given space to be signed as collaborators on the project – in that way Chicago combined their experience and skills, engaging them in a long process of art making – 150 needleworkers created 84 pieces.

Both an art and a very effective fine Motor Skill activity: tightly rolling magazine pages and gluing the edges will create beautiful tubes that can be used in craft projects. Children can gain the benefits from creating them, and then again from using them as stacking sticks, art supplies, counters, and more!
