Stocking tree, if you have no mantle.|| This could certainly be upgraded by wrapping a ribbon around post to make it look like a candy cane, same could be done w/paint & addition of big fabric bow at top. Other Christmas designs could be painted/stenciled on: holly, ornaments, Santa, snowmen, reindeer, candy canes.... You could also hang a wreath, with or without lights, on a topmost hook. Make it MORE special: Have a ceremony Christmas Eve placing "Santa" key on post so Santa can leave gifts!
