I hear this is supposed to be really great.
Jane Austen being a writer was an unusual role for a woman in those days. I find it amusing how this copy of Sense and Sensibility says "By a Lady" specifically. In Downton Abbey it was shocking for Lady Edith to be writing for a newspaper in 1920 and I can only imagine how strange it was to many people in the 1820s. Nowadays things have improved for many women.
Another oldie I have only just read. Written in 1990's it has London in the firing line. More recently apocalyptic movies focus on NYC. Wealthier people are "on the road to escape, while one assumes (but it is not said) that poorer people stay where they are and suffer. Reminds you of assylum seekers in the 21st centry.
