    Line the bottom with flattened cardboard and newspaper. Mix paper from your shredder in with the loam/soil. Cardboard will keep grass from growing up through, but let water pass. The paper and cardboard will eventually decompose, but the cardboard takes a while. Two or three layers and you won't have to worry about grass creeping through

    I use to make this all the time for my kids. I used vanilla yogurt and crushed pineapple and slivers of almonds. My son, 25 now, still eats it! :-)
