Charred corpses lie along the electrified fence at Erla Camp No. 3, a subcamp of Buchenwald. These corpses are probably those of would-be escapees, though the lethal charge in the fence was an easy and relatively painless option for suicides. One out of four people passing through the entrance of Buchenwald never left.
