Story maps help student pull the story apart and figure out what what it's all about. Some may think that this is unimportant to teach students in higher elementary grades but students still need to "learn to read" not only "read to learn" from kindergarten to middle school and beyond. This learning doesn't just stop once readers have a firm grasp on how to read.
Story mapping with Post-Its!
This is such a cute visual to teach students about plot. It shows them how a story leads up to the climax and then comes to an end. This aligns with the Common Core Language Arts standard 2.RL.5 Describe the overall structure of a story, including describing how the beginning introduces the story and the ending concludes the action.
Kids will LOVE this. Fun video and rap about the elements of a story. Explains plot, character, conflict, setting and theme. This is cool for the older grades. All my higher grade teaching friends

Using Transitions to Move Your Writing Along...
Story Elements Anchor Chart. We are setting up a reading corner @ church. We give the kids the first :30 of our Bible Study (:90) time to finish their homework. This should help those who have to do book reports. We were blessed to receive 10 boxes of books from a teacher who was retiring and cleaned out her classroom.
