Detailed View of a Solar Eclipse Corona "Only in the fleeting darkness of a total solar eclipse is the light of the solar corona easily visible."

Informally known as the "Soap Bubble Nebula", this planetary nebula (officially known as PN G75.5+1.7) was discovered by amateur astronomer Dave Jurasevich on July 6th, 2008. It was noted and reported by Keith Quattrocchi and Mel Helm on July 17th, 2008. This image was obtained with the Kitt Peak Mayall 4-meter telescope on June 19th, 2009 in the H-alpha (orange) and [OIII] (blue) narrowband filters. Full eclipse of the sun from above earths atmosphere

We have three objects, sun, moon, and earth, vastly different in size, in vastly different distances from each other, that, during solar and lunar eclipses, appear to cover each other exactly. Coincidence?

The unusual variable star V838 Monocerotis (V838 Mon) continues to puzzle astronomers. This previously inconspicuous star underwent an outburst early in 2002, during which it temporarily increased in brightness to become 600,000 times more luminous than our Sun. Light from this sudden eruption is illuminating the interstellar dust surrounding the star, producing the most spectacular "light echo" in the history of astronomy.
